Kona suggests sizes but we'd always recommend test-riding the bike as everyone has different proportions and preferences. We'd say it's especially important if you straddle two sizes.

If you feel little difference between sizes, opting for the smaller generally offers more adaptability down the line. Bikes can quite easily be made to feel bigger, but when trying to shrink a bike that feels too big, your options are more limited.

Steely reliability

The Reynolds 520 cromoly frame helps make this thing a bikepacking monster, with modular dropouts giving you the ability to run it as a single speed if that’s your thing.

Innovating a classic

The original Unit has been in Kona’s range since 2003 as a singlespeed mountain bike, but the Unit X opens up new doors with its well-geared 12‑speed Shimano Deore drivetrain.

Clearance conscious

The Unit X comes with 29×2.6″ Maxxis Rekon tires, but has no problems clearing 2.8", and you can potentially squeeze on rubber as big as 3.0"
